According to the HSE: “A programme of daily visual checks, regular inspections and servicing schedules should be established. Drivers should be encouraged to report defects or problems. Reported problems should be put right quickly and the excavator taken out of service if the item is safety critical."
The Good to Go Safety Excavator Checklist system goes a long way to meeting those requirements and towards ensuring the excavator is only ever used when a pre-use inspection has indicated it is safe to operate. The excavator checklist covers critical component checks specific to excavators and includes guidance notes on what to look for during the digger inspection. These safety checklists are designed to help improve safety, reduce maintenance costs and ensure compliance with legal responsibilities.
The digger checklist allows workers to carry out pre-use checks and spot potential faults before they develop into a more serious and costly defect. Once completed, the checklist is signed and dated before it is removed from the book, folded and placed inside a Good to Go Safety tag to clearly display the findings and date of inspection for all to see. A duplicate copy of the completed inspection is retained inside the book for management records.
A programme of daily visual checks, regular inspections and servicing schedules should be established in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and the risks associated with each vehicle. Drivers should be encouraged to report defects or problems. Reported problems should be put right quickly and the excavator taken out of service if the item is safety critical. Ref: HSE Guidance
Each check book contains 25 individual checklists relating to excavator components and mechanical checks to be completed before the digger is used. Duplicate carbon copies of the completed checklists are retained in the book for management records. The book also includes useful guidance notes to remind operatives what to look for during their inspection.
