Loader Crane Inspection Books - 25 Checklists

Lorry loaders are complex machines with electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems that require the manufacturer’s preventative maintenance instructions to be strictly complied with, if safety is to be maintained in use. Checks and inspections should be carried out taking account of the frequency of use of the lorry loader and the environmental conditions in which it regularly works. If the operator is considered to be competent, they may be authorised to carry out routine pre-use checks and intermediate inspections.

Daily pre-use checks should be completed at the beginning of each shift or working day before work commences and/or when taking over the machine for the first time. A record of the daily check should be kept and a defect reporting system should be in place so that any defects are rectified promptly.

A programme of pre-use checks, regular inspections and servicing schedules should be established in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and the risks associated with using a loadercrane. Operators should be encouraged to report defects or problems. Reported problems should be put right quickly, with the lorry loader crane or associated attachment(s) taken out of service if safety critical.

Each check book contains 25 individual checklists relating to loader crane components and mechanical checks to be completed before it is used. Duplicate carbon copies of the completed inspection is retained in the book for management records. The book also includes useful guidance notes to remind operatives what to look for during the overhead crane inspection.
