Tyre safety month, which runs throughout October 2023 and provides an opportunity for road safety professionals an ideal opportunity to run awareness, enforcement and educational initiatives to educate drivers about tyre care and maintenance, helping to maximise safety on our roads.
There are plenty of ways to get involved in Tyre Safety Month, whose success results from the involvement and participation of their many supporters. Good to Go Safety is a multi-award winning system which launched their digital version "TakeAIM" in 2019. TakeAIM was invented with the next generation in mind - with so many people inseparable from their mobile phones, it seemed logical to develop an APP to help the future generations monitor vehicles and spot potential issues.
Both the Good to Go Safety inspection system and TakeAIM provide employees with visual reminders and essential information to improve road safety. Our vehicle safety poster has been designed to highlight key components of vehicles which require regular inspections, providing a strong visual reminder to drivers to check their car/van for potential faults prior to driving.
Additionally, vehicles used for work (whether hired, company or employee owned) are legally required to be 1. fit for the purpose for which they are used; 2. maintained in a safe condition and fit for the road.
Using the either Good to Go Safety or TakeAIM Car & Vehicle inspection checklists helps you to comply with The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER & The Road Traffic Act 1998.
The introduction of a systematic vehicle maintenance and safety programme allows fleet managers to receive a signed and dated vehicle inspection checklist which can be used as evidence of an active and up-to-date maintenance programme in the event of an accident. Some of the basic vehicle checks covered in the book include the engine department for oil, screen wash, battery etc; whilst lights, mirrors, tyres and documentation are amongst the various external checks and it even includes details on the driver to ensure their license is in date and that they are fit to drive – all of which can be seen to cover many of the considerations listed above in one simple and affordable solution.
